For years, the business department at Glenbrook South High School — The Titan School of Business — has offered a rich variety of academic offerings to its students. One thing it has lacked, however, is a logo that adequately represents its commitment to excellence.
What follows is the iterative design process I underwent to design a new logo for the department.
Sketch
Starting with pen and paper, I imagined the different messages I hoped our logo could convey. Such words as journey, growth, learn, connect, and success came to mind.
Draft
I then brought three of the sketches into Illustrator to add some polish and pizazz. The first sketch leveraged the idea that we value connecting with each other and with the curriculum and that learning is a journey.
The second sketch leveraged the idea that entrepreneurs are bold, take risks, and demonstrate leadership with certainty and confidence.
The third sketch leveraged the idea that our curriculum is a foundation upon which students build future successes.
Final Result
In the end, I decided that I liked the first iteration of the third sketch best. I felt it best encompassed such ideas as audacious leadership, a growth mindset, success, and foundational understandings. It also had a mean looking lightning bolt through the middle.
